Rev. Schuyler Peterson
Dr. Schuyler Peterson was called to be the Senior Pastor of Southside in 2011. Schuyler graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts in Design Architecture and then received a Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in Biblical Languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His Doctor of Ministry with a focus on Christian Leadership and Church Growth came from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. His desire is to connect God’s unchanging truth with a diverse culture through creative and relevant teaching. Always centered on a key passage of Scripture, he helps people relate to God through His Word. Schuyler is a husband and a father of three daughters.
Rev. Cameron Wilson
Minister of Children
Cameron was called to be the Children's Minister in October of 2013. Cameron graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies and earned a Master’s in Christian Ministries from North Greenville University. He has a passion for teaching kids about Jesus and God's love for them. He believes parents should be the primary spiritual leaders for their kids, and is anxious to come alongside them, teach and love their kids, and support them however he can through the Children's Ministry. Cameron's wife, Jamie, is a huge part of his ministry. They live in Spartanburg and have two sons and one daughter.
Rev. Chris Murrell
Minister of Music & Senior Adults
Rev. Chris Murrell was called to Southside in 2013 to serve in the areas of Music and Senior Adults. Chris has served churches in Perry, Georgia, Boiling Springs, South Carolina, and Greenville, South Carolina. Chris graduated from Berea High School in Greenville, SC. He then went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Church Music from Furman University and then received a Masters Degree in Church Music from The Southern Baptist Theological, Louisville, Kentucky. Chris is husband to the musically talented Tammy Parris Murrell, originally from Spartanburg. They have one son, Cade, who enjoys music, art, and comic strips. Worship is man’s highest calling! Minister of Youth
Chris Bobo began serving as our Youth Minister on Sunday, August 18th, 2019. Southside has been Chris’ church since the day he was born. Chris graduated Dorman High School in 2008 and Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 2012. He is the founder and owner of Cross Anchor Web Design. He was baptized and married at Southside, where he is also an ordained deacon. Having worked with our youth and college students for many years as a layman, he has preexisting relationships with most of the families that he is now serving in a staff role. His wife Alyssa is also very involved in the ministry, as she has been for many years. Their son Jay is along for the ride.
Kelly Thackston is our Church Administrator/Financial Secretary. Kelly graduated from Woodruff High School and attended USC Spartanburg (now USC Upstate). She is a member of Enoree First Baptist Church, where she serves on the Budget Team, Audit Team, and children’s ministry. She is a native of Woodruff and is married with two children.
Nancy Tate began serving as the administrative assistant on January 20, 2021. Nancy graduated from Francis Marion University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and earned a Master’s in Business Administration from Winthrop University. She is also a graduate of the S.C. Technical College Leadership Academy. Nancy worked in higher education for 35 years retiring as Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships at Anderson University in January 2021. Nancy initially joined Southside in December 1997 and moved her letter back after being at Concord Baptist Church in Anderson from 2018-2021. Nancy has served on several committees at Southside, including Building & Grounds, Personnel, and Budget & Finance.
