Connecting People to Jesus Christ

Who We Are

Southside Baptist Church

We are a Southern Baptist Church that seeks to worship the living Lord.  We are located near downtown Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Sunday morning Bible study begins at 9:15 am.  You may be thinking, "That sure is early for a Sunday morning!"  Go ahead and set the alarm clock.  You'll be glad you did!  Morning worship follows at 10:30 am.  Enjoy the fellowship as One Body of Believers!  Our service offers a worship style to meet anyone's needs or desires, but we also know that when we worship, God is the real audience.

Dress is your preference.  You may certainly dress comfortably for our services.

Our History

Southside Baptist Church has a long and rich history in Spartanburg, SC. The church was organized in 1908 with 114 charter members. Through the years, the church has grown in membership and added to its facilities. Our church has from the beginning been a cooperating member of the Southern Baptist Convention. We desire to remain faithful to our strong traditions as Baptist while striving to be progressive in expanding our ministries and programs.

Our church has adopted the phrase, "Connecting People to Jesus Christ" as a description of why we do what we do. One discovers the heart of Christ by knowing Him personally through salvation. Salvation is the gift of God to those who confess their faith in Jesus Christ and believe in their heart that God has raised Him from the dead. (Romans 10:9) We also discover his heart through His Word, which is contained in the Bible.

 Our Heart

Two passages are at the heart of our ministries.

These passages form the foundation for our worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and evangelism.

Our church is centered in the heart of Spartanburg. However, our mission is not limited to reaching those in close proximity to us. It is our desire and commitment to partner with other Christians locally and around the world to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all people. Jesus said, "... you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." (Acts 1:8 NKJ) Southside provides many opportunities for Christians of all ages to experience "hands on" missions in our local area and in far away places such as Guatemala.

It is our hope and prayer that God will lead you to become part of the Southside family where you can discover the heart of Christ and fulfill His mission for your life. Please let us know of any way we may be of service to you.

"Connecting people to Jesus Christ" is the purpose and goal of all we do as a church. Our logo illustrates that purpose.

It is composed of four "stylized" people with upraised arms, connected together to form the cross. Those in Christ are connected to each other as members of God's very own family (Ephesians 2:19). The four people also represent our mission: to be witnesses for Christ in Spartanburg, in South Carolina, in the nation, and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). Our ultimate purpose is to bring glory to God, represented by the white radiating from the center of the cross (1 Corinthians 10:31).

We desire to connect people to Jesus Christ by:

  • Exalting God's Greatness in Worship - "Come, let us tell of the LORD's greatness; let us exalt his name together." Psalm 34:3
  • Evangelizing God's World through Missions - "And then he told them, "Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere." Mark 16:15
  • Equipping God's People through Discipleship - "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do." 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • Encouraging God's Family through Fellowship - " In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." Romans 12:5
  • Expressing God's Love in Ministry - "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." Matthew 22:39
