Welcome to Southside Baptist Church!

Southside Baptist Church has a long and rich history in Spartanburg, SC.  We desire to remain faithful to the LORD and our strong Baptist traditions while striving to impact the world for Jesus Christ.  Our services are friendly, with upbeat songs, multimedia helpers during the message, and a message that will encourage and inspire you.

Where is Southside?

Southside is located at 316 S. Church St. in Spartanburg.

Where do I go when I get there?

Park in one of our guest parking spaces on the north side of the church (to the right of the front of the sanctuary).  Come in to the Welcome Center or the sanctuary.

When are the services?

Sunday morning Bible Study is at 9:15 am, and Worship follows at 10:30 am. Wednesday’s schedule begins at 6:00 pm.  We have folks that dress fairly formally, and others who dress more casually.  Just come!

What are your Bible study groups like?

The teaching methods, as well as the topics, vary from class to class.  Guests are encouraged to try out several of the options available and decide on the group best suited to their season of life.  Everyone at Southside Baptist Church is encouraged to be a part of a Bible study group as part of their growth as a follower of Jesus Christ.

What do you have for my children?

Southside has great ministries for all age groups.  Preschoolers find love, care, safety, and special attention when they attend any of our services.  Every service provides a nursery, and parents can be notified of needs through a special personalized beeper system.  Children (1 – 6 grades) also have many activities at Southside, ranging from Children's Choir to mission groups to small group Bible studies.  From time to time we feature our Children’s Choir in the Sunday worship services to show how important they are in the life of our church.  Youth (7 – 12 grades) are also very important to us at Southside.  Our Youth Minister, Ken Dorrity, can answer more specific questions about our youth ministry.  Youth have small group Bible studies, Sunday night Worship, their own praise team and band, trips, and much more.  No matter what the age of your child or children, there is a special place for them at Southside Baptist Church.

I don't know much about the Bible. Will I feel uncomfortable?

Our prayer is that you will be warmly greeted and helped along in your journey to know God's Word in such way that is encouraging, loving, and life-changing.  We understand that you are taking a step out of your comfort zone to come to a worship service or small group Bible study.  We make a conscious effort to welcome folks without putting them in the spotlight.  That's why we will do everything possible to help you understand what we are doing and why we do it.  Our Connecting to Southside membership class is a great opportunity to really get to know Southside without any obligation to become a member.

Does your church talk a lot about money?

Not a lot.  We do occasionally as it pertains to everyday life.  As a guest at Southside, you are not expected to give to our offering.  You may choose to give, and that is fine, but if you visit Southside you will not feel any pressure to give financially to our church.  Our members support the testimony of our church by giving regularly.

What does Southside believe about baptism?

We believe those people who have committed their lives to Jesus Christ need to follow His command and example of baptism.  "Believer's baptism" is our term that refers to a person being old enough to make a conscious commitment to Christ and belief in Him before being baptized.  We also observe immersion, under the water, as the teaching of the Bible.

How can someone join Southside Baptist Church?

The steps to become a member include committing your life to Christ (Romans 10:9-10); being baptized by immersion; and completing the Connecting to Southside membership class (which is offered regularly on Sunday mornings).  You can indicate your desire to become a member on the Communication Card during a worship service or by coming to the front and talking with the Pastor during the commitment song at the end of a service.
